Here at De Zalze Golf Club, your success on the course is just as important to us as it is to you. Here you will find only a couple of instances, where we have been able to help our members improve their game by investing in it fully.
Michael van Rensburg has met his match
Michael was in the market for a new driver mainly due to his previous driver being about 9 years old and he felt he needed a change. He has never had fitting before and we suggested a session with Matt from Callaway.
In just half an hour we managed to improve the following:
Clubhead speed: 99 mph to 107 mph Ball speed: 142mph to 158 mph Carry distance: 207 meters to 238 meters Total distance: 228 meters to 257 meters
The scary thing is we changed absolutely nothing in his golf swing. He added yards because the driver he had in his hands was suited for the way he swings the club. The correct shaft and head combination improved his clubhead speed and that also improved his ball speed. Those two factors added more yards and Michael is now hitting 3 clubs less into a par 4 or par 5. Hands up who would not want 30 meters extra from the tee?
Last week we did a fitting with Charl Cronje and boy did he see a difference. He brought his own PING driver and hit it nice and straight but not very long. His total distance was 180m. Charl is quite tall and should be able to generate a good amount of club head speed. The shaft in his PING driver did not suit his swing and was actually holding him back. We then put a lighter and stiffer shaft in a new Callaway Epic driver and with the very first swing added 40 meters to his tee shot. Immediately Charl increased his club head speed and ball speed that allowed him to get more distance off the tee. His dispersion also improved so he was hitting it longer and with more accuracy.
fitting Charl was hitting a 4 hybrid the same distance as his previous driver and a 5 Wood 20 meters longer than his old PING. Needless to say it was an easy decision for Charl as the numbers spoke for themselves as we had a TrackMan with us that gave him feedback on every single shot he hit.
Many of you know Neno Haasbroek. Neno is a very good player with a two handicap that hits a nice long ball. Neno felt that he needed better performance from his irons as his current clubs were outdated. We got him into a fitting with Matt from Callaway and the results were scary. His average distance with his own 7 iron was around 150m. Now most of you would agree that 150m with a 7 iron is pretty good. Well, with the new Callaway Apex 7 iron, Neno added 34 meters! Yes that is correct, he was hitting the new 7 iron 184 metres! That is a scary amount of distance to add to a 7 iron. That means Neno will now be hitting 3 clubs less into the greens, that will lead to more greens in regulation and more birdie opportunities.
Neno obviously bought the irons and made 5 birdies in a row to shoot 31 on the front 9 last weekend. Now if that is not a boost of confidence then I don't know what is.
